Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) operates at UTC−7 and is the daylight saving time observed across much of the Pacific Time Zone in North America. It is also known as "Pacific Summer Time" or simply part of "Pacific Time." PDT is the summer counterpart to Pacific Standard Time (PST, UTC−8) and typically begins in mid-March and ends in early November, with clocks set forward by one hour to extend evening daylight hours.
Importance and Global Use of PDT
Pacific Daylight Time is vital for synchronizing activities across major west coast economic centers such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, and Tijuana. These regions depend on PDT to coordinate transportation, broadcasting, finance, and technology operations efficiently during the summer months when longer daylight supports extended business and social activities.
Globally, PDT helps maintain connections across the Pacific Rim by aligning schedules with Asian and European markets. Its strategic position between other North American and international time zones supports real-time global collaboration, making it essential for industries that operate on a 24-hour cycle, including logistics, digital services, and multinational corporations.
